Château Branas Grand Poujeaux 2011 (Red)
SLEEPER OF THE VINTAGE
Château Branas Grand Poujeaux, Moulis 2011
We feel this bottle, it was once overlooked. People thought it was "just ok" when they first had it, but when they tried it again in 2014, they were surprised at how good this wine actually is when given time. In 2017, they started raving about the complexity of the wine. A full nine years later, this sleeper has fully awakened. And yes, you're welcome that we've stored it for you in optimum conditions while we watched it slowly wake up.
What is this worthy sleeper? It is wine from the vineyards of Branas Grand Poujeaux where its land is planted with 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. On their best terroir is the Grand Poujeaux plateau where the vines are about 25 years of age, give or take.
Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented whole to retard oxygenation and retain as much freshness as possible. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, the wine takes on a dark ruby colour with perfumes of violets and aromas of sweet creme de cassis, cherry, plum and dark earth notes. Its tannins are now ripe and soft with full black currant flavours and complexity that was overlooked when it first came out in 2011 but has now awakened to its full potential. Cheers!
