The Writer's Series
"So long as you write what you wish to write, that is all that matters; and whether it matters for ages or only for hours, nobody can say." - Virginia Woolf, A Room of One's Own
SUNSHINE WHEN SHE COMES
Open the Haut Dambert Cuvee Clemence 2019 and let your senses awaken to ripe tropical flavours of pear, pineapple and lime over a core of tangy, zesty fruit. Lively, generous and ready to drink, this will send the darkness away and bring out the words and parade of characters hiding in the corners of your mind.
IN XANADU DID KUBLA KHAN
Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "stately pleasure-dome decree" may not be on your horizon anytime soon, but the deep romance of eastern Europe is sure to fire your imagination. "T by Pajzos 2018" is an outstanding white whose prized and rare "Furmint" varietal that grows best only in the Tokaj region of Hungary will give you an experience worthy of the Khan.
THAT WHICH WE CALL A ROSE
By any other name would smell as sweet, is how William Shakespeare puts it, but for owner Ronan Laborde of famed Clinet in Pomerol, only his name will do. Ronan by Clinet 2015 is a 100% Merlot wine that is bright ruby in colour, delicately spiced and fruit-forward with aromas of cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant. So go ahead, charge forward and make a name for yourself!
HOW WILL WE KNOW
"How can we live without our lives? How will we know it's us without our past? - John Steinbeck asked in Grapes of Wrath. Indeed, how can we drink and not be amazed by how the past is literally bottled for us such that we can know if that year was filled with joy or pain, suffering or ease. In your bottle, we have chosen joy and ease as 2016 was a very very good year for Bordeaux grapes. This Château Haut Dambert Cuvee Clemence is deep in colour, with intense cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant aromas. As the fruit flavours are concentrated, the tannins soft and round, take it alongside soy sauce or roasted chicken, roti prata, or any Cantonese / Shanghainese cuisine to make you remember that all is good.
SPRING IS THE TIME OF PLANS AND PROJECTS - Leo Tolstoy (Anna Karenina)
In the Spring of the year 2000, Danièle Vialard and Eric Hosteins made their way to the isolated terroir of Aniane in the Hérault department and decided to make something of this isolated place. It seemed impossible with the many established Châteaus in better terroir around them, but they also knew that the future belonged to the young and brave, if not the foolish. After drinking this Domain de Saint Dominique 2012 blend of 50% Syrah 30% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Petit Verdot 10% Merlot, you will be glad they took up the challenge. Displaying ripe blackcurrant, red cherries with notes of cedar and black pepper, this medium to full bodied wine with soft nicely rounded tannins will remind you that for the young and daring (even if only at heart), anything is possible!
"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." - Helen Keller
Despite already having an iconic status in their own right, Hubert de Bouärd and Dominique Hébrard still decided that community is better than competition. Together, they made this Château De Francs 2014, an outstanding blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intensely rich and packed with dark fruit and toasted spices, it will elevate any roasted, grilled or braised dishes. Lovely hints of vanilla, chocolate, toffee and coffee will surprise those who close their eyes and let their other senses take over. Drink this extraordinarily silky wine and savour the long finish with your best friend to welcome the publication of your masterpiece in the year 2021!
